summer outfit round up
Summer’s officially over (at least in name — the weather is bound to stay warm through October here in Sacramento) and…I’m here for it! Usually, I’m the endless-summer-lover who doesn’t want to put her sandals and shorts in storage.
I think having a toddler is making me really excited for fall. I’m looking forward to taking him on a hayride, crunching leaves with him, and picking out his first pumpkins. Well, and the fashion. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was looking froward to dressing in sweaters and boots and cute hats.
Anytime I start planning a new seasonal wardrobe, I go back through my outfit photos to review what I’ve actually worn. The Cladwell app is also good for this, I just have a tendency to forget to log my outfits for weeks on end.
As I browsed through my outfit hashtag (lol what a time to be alive where even our outfits have hashtags), I couldn’t help but look back on this summer’s outfits. And I thought sharing my favorite outfits of the season would be a fun way to close out the summer wardrobe.
Summer dressing is my favorite and least favorite all at the same time. I live in shorts, tanks and sandals during the summer because Sacramento is W A R M (read: hot) from June through September. As comfortable as it is and as much as I gravitate to that outfit formula day after day, year after year, I always reach a point where I get tired of it.
Thankfully, I discovered the Color My Closet Challenge this summer and thoroughly enjoyed looking at my closet with fresh perspective. You’ll see a lot of those colorful outfits in this post.
OK! Enough blabbing. On to the clothes!

RECAP
I realize just sharing photos of what I’ve worn isn’t helpful (and is a little self indulgent), so let’s pick some of this apart, shall we?
Three things I noticed about my style this summer were:
I actually wore skirts/dresses (!!)
I remember making my summer wardrobe wishlist video (back when I was making videos for my YouTube channel) and talking about wanting to experiment with midi skirts. At the time, I only owned that bright-ish blue one pictured above and I knew I wanted to add a neutral, airy-feeling one to my closet for the summer. I scoured Poshmark for weeks mostly because I was on a budget, but I found the skirt of my dreams. It had pockets, it had buttons, plus it’s lined! I feel like I’ve worn the heck out of that skirt despite not having a ton of photos of those outfits.
2. Brown shoes are my thing
Now that I’ve looked through these photos, I think, Duh. Of course I prefer brown shoes. I’ve never really named this preference before, though. And right behind brown shoes is white shoes. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to wear my black vans or converse and have wished they were white. Being aware of this will help me pick what shoes I keep out of storage this season, plus it’ll help keep me focused on what shoes to actually buy/ask for for my birthday and Christmas this year.
3. Denim is still my BFF
Shocker, I know! It might seem obvious, but I’m making a note of it because I want to be aware of the fact that I still love my denim. I’m curious about playing with corduroy and wide legged pants this fall, but I don’t want my excitement to overtake my tried and true favorites. I also made it a point to not have any skinny jeans in my summer wardrobe. While I liked the change of pace, I’m ready to reintroduce some my favorite skinny jeans back in to my wardrobe this season.
There we have it! A quick recap of what my style looked like on the days when I felt great and wanted my photo taken. I enjoyed experimenting with color this summer! I’m even planning on working some reds and more oranges into my fall wardrobe! More on that soon.
